Eduroam – Connect Symbian

The steps needed to configure Symbian to connect to eduroam are quite intricate – you should be confident about how to navigate the menus of your device before attempting the following instructions.

There are two main steps to complete:

  1. Import the University’s Root CA Certificate
  2. Configure wireless settings

Import the University’s Root CA Certificate

  1. Open the web browser and connect with a 3G connection, or using the Bristol-WiFi-Setup open wireless network.
  2. Navigate to: http://www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/certs/is-cacert.der.cer
  3. The web browser should detect the certificate at that address. Follow the on-screen prompts to install/import the certificate. If you don’t get any prompts, you must open the file after downloading it in-order to fully import the certificate into your phone.

Configure wireless settings

  1. Start from your device’s main screen, open the menu and select ‘Tools’ and then ‘Settings’
