Visiting elsewhere

All Bristol staff and students should be able to connect to eduroam at any of the thousands of locations worldwide.

When using eduroam at another organisation please note the following points:

  • If possible, get eduroam working on your computer at Bristol before you go.
  • If you have a problem using eduroam at another organisation, you should contact the Bristol IT Service Desk.
  • For further information about configuring your computer refer to the connection instructions.
  • Use your Bristol username with @bristol.ac.uk appended as your username for eduroam, eg ab1234SPAM@bristol.ac.uk
  • Use your Bristol password as your password.
  • If you have a “domain” box when logging in, leave it blank.
  • Do not type your Bristol password into any wireless system that uses a web page to login – it won’t work & your password maybe stolen!
  • Some eduroam organisations may use a weaker encryption scheme “WPA/TKIP” than the one used at Bristol (WPA2/AES). In this case you may need to make a minor change to your settings as per this FAQ article.

Accessing restricted resources via eduroam

When using eduroam elsewhere you are connected to that organisations network, not Bristol’s. Therefore you may need to take additional steps to access restricted Bristol resources or eJournals. Please refer to this FAQ article for more information.
