Printing from Windows
This information is now here: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/it-services/applications/printing/byod/print-win/
These instructions have been developed for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7:
- If you have personal firewall software [other than the built in Windows firewall] on your computer, configure it to allow access to the print server: is-print2.pcr.bris.ac.uk
- Connect to the wireless service as normal.
- When connected, download the printer connect utility (http://www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/software-archive/printer-connect/UoB-Printer-Installer.exe) and save it to your desktop. Then double click on it.
- The printer connect application may take a minute or two to load. When it loads, pick the printer you want to use from the drop down list, enter your Bristol username and password and click Install Printer.
- After a minute or two you should get a message on your screen to say the printer installation is complete.
How to print
- Click File, Print Preview to check what your document will look like when printed. Lastly, it’s a good idea to actually go to the printer and check that it isn’t out of service (or having some other problem) before you try to print to it.
- Click File, Print. Make sure you select a nearby printer and not one on the other side of the University. Click Print.
- Please go immediately to pick up your output from the printer before someone else does by accident.
Printing to other departmental printers
You should be able to print from the wireless service to various departmental printers that are not listed in the printer connect utility above. If you need to do this, please ask your departmental IT Team to find out the possiblilities (email service-desk@bristol.ac.uk).
