Hosting visitors

The University provides both the VisitorNet and eduroam wireless services at all wireless locations.

If a visitor comes from an organisation that is part of the international eduroam community, and they have already configured their computer at their home organisation, then they will be able to use eduroam at Bristol. Otherwise, visitors should use VisitorNet.

User names & passwords for VisitorNet can be instantly requested by any member of UoB Staff:
Request free VisitorNet wireless usernames.

  • Usernames last for 7 days from the time of first use.
  • Usernames must be first used within 30 days of request.
  • This service is designed to provide web and email access. It is not suitable for ‘heavy’ internet users.
  • You must record to whom each username is given for legal reasons.
  • The usernames will be emailed to you within a few minutes of request.
  • There is no charge for this service.
  • There are instructions and technical information pages available for VisitorNet users

Wireless publicity for events and conferences

If you are a member of University Staff organising an event or conference, please refer to the wireless publicity information page. This page is designed to help you publicise the available wireless services in a meaningful, delegate friendly way. This is especially important if your delegates are likely to be a mix of those from Eduroam participating academic organisations, and those from other organisations (including non-academic organisations).
