Wi-Fi for conferences and events – Publicity guide

This page is designed to help members of staff at the University publicise the available wireless services in a meaningful, delegate friendly way.

General publicity

When advertising a conference venue or an event generally e.g. via a poster, or public website:

  1. Check your venue is on the list of wireless locations before advertising wireless availability. Anywhere that is not on the list may have some fringe coverage from adjacent areas, but we can not guarantee the wireless will be reliable in unlisted locations.
  2. Use the Eduroam logo – it’s the internationally recognised symbol for eduroam wireless availability. Displaying it on your publication should instantly convey that free, fast and reliable Wi-Fi is available to those from participating organisations.

The logo is available in with a white background or a black background. It’s also available in EPS format if needed.
  3. Bristol’s VisitorNet Wi-Fi service is available to guests of staff / conference delegates who can not use eduroam. This service is similar to wireless service available in some coffee shops. It’s easy to use for web browsing and checking email.

Delegate packs / visitor joining information

  1. Request usernames for all your delegates before the event.
  2. In the joining information you should indicate that:
    • Eduroam users will be able to connect immediately using the username and password they already have from their home institution (Eduroam users should have set-up their computer at their home organisation before coming to Bristol).
    • Users who can’t use eduroam can collect their VisitorNet username and password from their host / at the event registration desk.
    • Simple wireless VisitorNet instructions for hosts to give to guests are available:
