VisitorNet wireless – Technical information

This page is for those in an IT support role – If you are trying to connect to VisitorNet wireless, please refer to the connection instructions.

The wireless SSID is Bristol-VisitorNet. WPA/TKIP and WPA2/AES are both supported as encryption schemes.

Client devices are given a RFC1918 private IP address via DHCP upon connection to the wireless network. Access to the internet is achieved via NAT/PAT. The ‘public’ IP address may vary, and therefore this service is not suitable for directly serving content to internet users. When a user has successfully entered their username and password into the web based login page, the following list of protocols is allowed:

  • TCP ports 21, 22, 80, 110, 143, 220, 389, 406, 443, 465, 563, 587, 636, 993, 995, 1723, 1863, 2598, 3389, 3653, 5000, 6660-6669, 7001, 8052, 8080, 10000.
  • UDP ports 123, 563, 3653, 7001, 8052.
  • GRE
  • AHP
  • ESP
  • ICMP echo
  • NB: These lists are subject to change without notice
