Troubleshooting: How to remove wifi profiles and reconnect to eduroam

If you are having trouble connecting to eduroam or to services like Print Release then removing your eduroam profile and setting it up again may resolve the problem. Keep this page open and follow these steps carefully, to ensure that you can reconnect.

Windows 10

  1. Click the Network icon in the system tray (bottom right) and choose Network and Internet settings
  2. Click WiFi on the left menu (may be Manage Wi-Fi settings on some systems)
  3. Click Manage known networks, choose eduroam.
  4. Click Forget and your eduroam wifi profile will be removed.
  5. Now click on the Network icon again and connect to the bristol-wifi-setup wireless signal.
  6. Open a new browser window and go to: www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/eduroam/instructions/go-win8/
  7. Follow the instructions on that page to connect to eduroam. When you connect for the first time you must enter your username with @bristol.ac.uk at the end, (e.g. ab12345@bristol.ac.uk). This is really important, if you enter it with @my.bristol.ac.uk or @bris.ac.uk at the end then key services will not work.

Windows 8

  1. Move your mouse to the top right corner of the screen and then move it down, to bring up the Charms menu.
  2. Click on Settings and then on Change PC Settings.
  3. In the PC Settings menu click on Network.
  4. In the Connections section, find Wi-Fi and click on Manage known networks.
  5. Choose eduroam and click Forget. Your eduroam wifi profile will be removed.
  6. Open a new browser window and go to: www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/eduroam/instructions/go-win8/
  7. Follow the instructions on that page to connect to eduroam. When you connect for the first time you must enter your username with @bristol.ac.uk at the end, (e.g. ab12345@bristol.ac.uk). This is really important, if you enter it with @my.bristol.ac.uk or @bris.ac.uk at the end then key services will not work.

Windows 7

  2. Click Manage Wireless Networks.
  3. Choose eduroam.
  4. Click Remove and your eduroam wifi profile will be removed.
  5. Now click on the Network icon again and connect to the bristol-wifi-setup wireless signal.
  6. Open a new browser window and go to: www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/eduroam/instructions/go-win7/
  7. Follow the instructions on that page to connect to eduroam. When you connect for the first time you must enter your username with @bristol.ac.uk at the end, (e.g. ab12345@bristol.ac.uk). MacOS

  1. Click the Wi-Fi symbol on the top menu bar and choose Open Network Preferences.
  2. Choose Wi-Fi on the left menu and then click Advanced (bottom right of the pop-up).
  3. Choose Wi-Fi from the menu across the top of the pop-up.
  4. Find and choose eduroam from the list of Network Names that you have connected to.
  5. Click the minus sign below the list to remove eduroam and then click OK.
  6. Click the Wi-Fi symbol on the top menu bar and choose Bristol-wifi-setup.
  7. Your Mac may pop up a window with the Wireless webpage in it. Close this window and open a new browser window, (Safari, Chrome or Firefox). Browse to: www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/eduroam/instructions/macos/
  8. Follow the instructions on that page to connect to eduroam. When you connect for the first time you must enter your username in the format ab12345.

iOS

  1. Open the Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap profiles and VPN management.
  4. Tap eduroam and then tap Remove Profile.
  5. Enter your iPhone/iPad passcode.
  6. Tap Remove
  7. Connect to Bristol-wifi-setup.
  8. Open Safari, (or another browser) and go to: www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/eduroam/instructions/go-iphone/
  9. Follow the instructions on that page to connect to eduroam. When you connect for the first time you must enter your username with @bristol.ac.uk at the end, (e.g. ab12345@bristol.ac.uk).

Android

  1. Open the Settings app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Go to the Wi-Fi section.
  3. Find eduroam and long-press it.
  4. Choose Forget network.
  5. Connect to Bristol-wifi-setup
  6. Open Chrome and go to: www.wireless.bris.ac.uk/eduroam/instructions/go-android/
  7. Follow the instructions on that page to connect to eduroam. When you connect for the first time you must enter your username with @bristol.ac.uk at the end, (e.g. ab12345@bristol.ac.uk).

Chromebook

  1. Login to the Chromebook
  2. Click on the WiFi icon located bottom-right adjacent to the clock
  3. Select Settings
  4. Select Network Settings
  5. Click on the legacy Eduroam instance
  6. Click on the triangle next to that instance and then click on Forget
